A High Voltage (HV) installation project for the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) was recently completed by Protech PAS.
The project involved two stages – a substation upgrade and a new substation build.
Stage 1 was an upgrade to the main substation to allow connection of future onsite generation as well as complete network reticulation all while meeting current connection agreement requirements.
Stage 2 was the construction of a new substation that supports the installation of a 650kW combined roof and ground mount solar project.
The main purpose of this project was to create a more reliable source of power to support AIMS’ ongoing research and developmental projects.
Our part of the project included multiple equipment installations. These were: two new 11kv substations, 12 new panels of 11kv Air insulated switchgear, two new dry type transformers, earthing system augmentation, HV cable installation and back-up power supply installation.
Despite some minor issues identified during our SAT testing, the equipment was successfully energised and integrated just before August this year.
