Everyone loves receiving high quality work that shows that extra effort has been put into it, but not many people like to do it. With quality of work being of paramount importance in our workforce today, companies and people must continue to think of new innovative methods to help improve this and build a culture of pride within the workforce over the work we do.
Here at Protech PAS, we strive to achieve this by implementing in depth training for all members of our workforce to ensure everyone has the correct understanding of their responsibilities. This allows our staff to understand what is expected of them, so they have a base line to improve on. Without this clear understanding of expectations, they would be unable to improve their quality of work as there is nothing to compare it with. We have also been building a culture of high-quality work from everyone in our workforce, from our first-year apprentices to our senior engineers, by continually encouraging all members to take pride in their work. This culture encourages an increase in the quality of work as no one wants to be the only person doing the bare minimum. Hence, this culture encourages our team to go above and beyond, thus creating a new baseline for the standard of work we provide.
What Types of Training Are We Doing?
Over the past year we have increased the level of training of all our workers in our workforce by running various types of training days. Most recently, I was involved in our transformer testing and maintenance training. This was run by our Principal Engineer and focused on an in-depth review of how a transformer works, correct testing procedures, what test results we should expect to see and general maintenance procedures. In this course, full peer participation was of the highest importance, and thus we were able to begin building a foundation of our continually improving standards of testing and maintenance. This training also had a practical element in which we were able to get real life experience on the testing that we would need to do when out on site. This experience is invaluable as it creates a common understanding among all of us who participated in this training day and allows us to set a standard for our performance. This improves our quality of work and allows us to have the entire workforce operating at the same high standard.
Building a Culture Where Quality is Everything
High quality work seems to be something of a lost art; with most people looking for the quickest and easiest fix not many people put the effort in to create a long-term fix. So how can we ensure the highest quality of work?
We can do this through regular toolbox talks and morning meetings, in which we can discuss our jobs from the previous day, and we can work as a team to discuss improvements to all aspects of our jobs. Encouraging everyone to join in and have their say is essential to this process to ensure the most is taken out of these meetings. Positive communication is a key aspect of improving quality. This once again allows us to all be on the same page with the quality of work we provide as part of Protech PAS and gives us the opportunity to exceed client’s expectations. Another way we are promoting a high-quality work culture is through our rewards and recognition program. This program rewards workers who go above and beyond the accepted minimum requirements and provide services to our clients that are of the highest quality.
