Cable testing is conducted to prove the integrity of the cable, and the ability to withstand the operational voltage. This will ensure that the cable, and the substation safely service the connected equipment in keeping with the manufactures recommendations, meet the Australian Standards and Wiring Rules. After passing a suitable cable test, it is deemed fit for purpose and safe to operate.
There are more extensive testing for commissioning purposes, however, cables which have been in service for some time should be limited to Megger/VLF/Megger testing on a regular schedule as recommended by the manufacture and loading environment.
